Why do advocates of torture in the US not see that the use of torture puts US troops at risk of being tortured?

Consider also that many of the prisoners we tortured knew nothing worth revealing. In Afghanistan we paid reward money to tribesmen to turn in Taliban members. We later discovered many were just innocent shepherds from rival clans. How many of them were tortured and abused?
